Whims of Destiny

It was the summer of 1941 and Gaby and Peter were on top of the world. And why wouldn’t they be? After all, they had just been married. Gaby the young Swedish bride and Peter her German husband. They were inseparable, as are most newlyweds, and saw nothing but good times ahead. Even though Peter was a surgeon in the German Navy and Germany was at war with most of Europe, they still envisioned a beautiful future. Besides, the war would be over soon; everyone knew that.

But the war did not end soon; it dragged on. Gaby and Peter’s normal life and dreams faded and crumbled as did the buildings in which they lived. The first years of marriage are hard enough without bombs dropping from the sky. Before they knew it, the war had separated them. Leaving them both searching yet never finding out what had happened to their spouse.
